創業者はダーク ビッケンバーグ(Dirk Bikkembergs)。1962年、ドイツのケルン生まれ。両親はドイツ人とベルギー人で軍隊に勤める。 
 
81年、アントワープ王立美術アカデミー卒業。卒業コレクションで当時史上最高の成績(97点)を出す。「アントワープの6人」の1人。 
 
82年よりフリーのデザイナーとして活躍。数々のベルギー系ファッション企業で働く。 84年より、ジャンポール・ゴルチエに師事。 
 
86年、ロンドンで靴のコレクションを発表。ここでファッション業界での地位を確立する。 
 
1996年より自身の名を冠したブランド「ダーク ビッケンバーグ」を設立。

DIRK BIKKEMBERGSの“1999” SHORT COATです。 
 
素材にはポリエステル 65% コットン 35%が混紡された強烈な蛍光オレンジカラーのハリのある綾織り系の生地が使用されています。 
 
巨大なラペルや樹脂製のボタンなどダークビッケンバーグらしい挑戦的なデザインが特徴的です。 
 
大変古い作品で生産数も極少だと思われるので入手困難な一枚だと思います。
